OVERVIEW
Soundscape Capture Device is a wearable physical computing prototype that explores how environmental sounds affect perception and emotion. The project combines soundscape research, Arduino/Raspberry Pi prototyping, 3D-printed wearable components, and visual/audio feedback to create an interactive device that records, categorizes, and responds to surrounding urban sounds.
MY ROLE
I led the project from research and concept development to prototyping, fabrication, and final presentation. My work included soundscape research in Beijing, interaction design, circuit testing, Arduino/Raspberry Pi experimentation, 3D modeling, material testing, device assembly, and visual system design.
WHAT I BUILT
I designed and built a wearable sound-capture device that collects environmental audio, categorizes sound inputs, and translates them into visual and sensory feedback. The final prototype uses a body-mounted device and screen-based visualization to help users reconnect with ambient sound and understand how different sound environments may influence emotional states.
PROCESS
The project began with research into urban soundscapes, emotional response, and brainwave references. I then developed sketches inspired by biological sensing structures, tested circuit and movement systems with Arduino/Raspberry Pi, experimented with resin and 3D-printed components, and assembled the final wearable prototype through multiple fabrication iterations.
